Chilean street dogs - Perros callejeros de Chile

When I first visited Chile in 2010 one of the things that caught my attention was the huge amount of street dogs that you could see everywhere, downtown Santiago or in the smaller villages in the countryside. Later I discovered that this is quite common in many other countries of South America.

I love dogs and during the last year I had many opportunities to photograph them, from the happy-courious ones to the sad-eyes and sick ones. Here is a selection of pictures, all taken in different places of Chile, from the southern region of Magallanes up to the Atacama Desert in the north, passing of course through the capital Santiago. It's still not completely clear to me why there are so many abandoned dogs here around but it's not my intention to "denounce" or judge anything. Just to share my experience. Some pictures can result a little bit strong - viewer discretion is advised.

The best thing about dogs is that they never get upset when you photograph them.
